Dr. Lloyd Briggs, the first orthopaedic surgeon to join the Orthopaedic Institute of Ohio after its formation nearly three decades ago, has announced his retirement this fall, effective at the end of this year. Since 1998, Dr. Briggs has served the greater Lima community with compassion, professionalism, and expertise, dedicating himself to helping patients recover from injuries and achieve a better quality of life.
Reflecting on his career, Dr. Briggs shares how much he will miss interacting with patients, whose fascinating life stories have inspired him. “Like professional athletes often say—when I retire, I won’t miss the ‘game’ as much as I’ll miss the locker room,” he remarks. “It seems like every patient has an interesting story. I will miss the patients, who have inspired me with their resilience and determination to overcome life’s challenges, often doing so with a smile. I will also deeply miss interacting with the incredible staff and colleagues, who are not only the very best but are truly committed to helping people.”
As Dr. Briggs begins this new chapter of life, he looks forward to spending more time with his family, traveling, and, in his words, “trying to fit as much cool and interesting stuff into the next chapter of my life as I possibly can.”

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Briggs for his 26 years of dedicated service to the Lima community and his instrumental role in establishing and growing the Orthopaedic Institute of Ohio and the Institute for Orthopaedic Surgery. These institutions have become the premier providers of orthopaedic care in the region, thanks in large part to his leadership and vision.
Please join us in celebrating Dr. Briggs’ extraordinary career and wishing him all the best for a long, fulfilling retirement. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his lasting impact on our community.
